US Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville

by Alex

The US Space & Rocket Center has loads of cool stuff to see, but this 300+ foot standing replica of a Saturn V rocket is fantastic. I won’t try and describe everything, as Jim Thompson has done such a great job over at Flickr ;-)

Bermuda

by James

Out in the Atlantic Ocean is a small patch of high-res photos where you’ll find the island of Bermuda, an internally self-governing island overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Reader Patrick pointed out a Cruise Liner docked to the East of the island and Bill Beaty noticed a “wave-radiating aperture” for all you physicists.

Space Shuttle

by Alex

More spaceships!

We’ve already posted Cape Canaveral, but it’s worth noting that you can also see a space shuttle with its boosters lying nearby, as well as the vehicle assembly building where they put all this stuff together. Jim Thompson has an excellent annotated flickr image of the whole area, thanks Jim :-D

Johnson Space Center, Houston

by Alex

Damn, that’s a big ol’ rocket! It’s a Saturn V Rocket at the Johnson Space Center. Glen Vigus said:

The Saturn V rockets were used to launch the Apollo missions to the moon from 1968 to 1972. The Saturn V in this image was intended for the Apollo 18 mission before funding for the program was cut.

And Brandon said:

The photo is before summer ‘04, when a large metal structure was built over it while the rocket was restored (mildew, rust, dirt cleaned off, etc). I believe the rocket will be covered from now on…
