The Yankees recently announced that they are going to build a new Yankee Stadium, just to the north of the current one, in the field presently occupied by the running track. The old stadium will be torn down, but the field itself and some of the lower-level stands around the infield will be preserved for use by local amateur leagues. The team is going to foot the bill for all costs related to the new stadium, but the city and state are going to chip in some cash to improve subway/rail links, create new parkland, and finance new construction in an attempt to revitalize the waterfront area. If everything goes according to plan, everything will be done by 2009, and the new stadium will retain much of the look and feel of the current one (including the same field dimensions), although it will incorporate more modern conveniences and reintroduce some of the structural features of the current Yankee Stadium that were done away with when it was renovated in the mid-70s.

a new yankee stadium?? how the hell is it that no one crying foul on this one?? THE yankee stadium is being “replaced” (AS IF) and i haven’t heard more than a few half-hearted complaints from the thousands (if not MILLIONS) of yankee fans living here in new york city!! it’s nothing but a travesty that a perfectly fine stadium that has been home to so many unbelievable baseball moments that it’s almost impossible to count is being torn down and kicked to the curb. i will never be able to take my (unborn) children to a yankee game and look out at the same infield grass and maybe even sit in the same section that i once did as a child or young adult as i have been able to up until these last two seasons. what an incredible tragedy and travesty. does anyone else feel the way i do? help! i feel so all alone on this one.
i agree with you. I,m headed out in the A.M with my son to the house that RUTH built. I am 47 years old and still get a GREAT feeling going to the only real stadium left. I feel sorry for the future that they won’t get to smell the smells or feel the hustle and bustle that makes us love this place. As much as I hate to say it is the “Green monster” all that will be left of the old time, HOME town ball parks.
