Hang Gliders parked at Torrey Pines Glider Port, adjacent to the world-famous PGA Tour stop, Torrey Pines Golf Course. Can anyone find any gliders in flight?

Actually, there’s one in flight in he picture you just posted - look at the shadow castby the topmost one!

    katheudo,

that is likely not in flight. There are two types of folks who fly from there, the hang glider type ones you can see in the picture, and the parachute type ones you can see in my Flickr post above. The one casting the shadow is the parachute type, but the guy is certainly on the ground…his parachute is just in the air. He was probably either getting ready to go flying or getting ready to pack it in.

is that purple dot to the north a glider?

  5. 5. Jeff says:

I personally don’t see any in flight.

I went through some of my photos and uploaded a few more to Flickr.

They jump off a bit of a cliff to take off:

Here’s a guy ready to take off:

And here is a picture from Scripps Pier looking north, and there were a few people floating around in the sky:

Scripps Pier can be seen in the google map above by heading down the coast a few miles.

    Hey Aaron,

I think you’re right! It looks like a purple glider flying towards the North.

You can also see a few people sunbathing down on the beach. What you can’t see is that it’s a nudist beach. Years ago, made for some interesting landings when the wind died down.

James: The purple thing is actually a paraglider in flight. Well spotted.
