The Superdome really is an amazing structure. Even though it’s become obsolete by modern NFL “pleasure palace” standards, it’s still probably the most amazing sports facility in the US, just based on its sheer size.

The small building just south of the dome is New Orleans Arena, home of the New Orleans Hornets of the NBA.

    Isn’t the the Silverdome bigger?

  3. pudge44 says:

No, by both volume and area, I believe the Superdome is bigger. Plus, it has a solid domed roof, while the Silverdome has in inflatable, soft roof. It’s not truly a domed structure in the architectural sense, more like a stadium covered with plastic wrap.

Take a good look at this sightseeing item, as well as a view of the Placemark: entire city / Google Earth. In 24 hours, this place might be scraped off the face of the planet!

  7. Jack says:

CNN is reporting damage to the roof this morning. The Superdome is being used as a “shelter of last resort” for people who could not evacuate New Orleans ahead of Hurricane Katrina.
