At the time this picture was taken, the stadium was called CMGI Field. But CMGI ran out of money so Gillette bought the naming rights.

Not to get too off-topic, but it’s worth noting that Gillette Stadium is one of the very few large stadiums - maybe even the only one - built in recent years with no taxpayer funding. Some public funds were used for road improvements but the Patriots are required to pay them back over a period of time. All construction costs relating to the stadium itself came from private sources.

Some of the red cranberry fields, as shown elsewhere on the site, can be seen just to the south of the stadiums.
