a bizarre glitch with the satelite imaging-either that or aliens!
What I believe it is, and this follows with where this “overlay” image that many of the Photoshoopers contend with, is that its a reflection of light back into the lens. See where you can’t see it? Its the icy, rough, non-reflective parts. Where it is, is all where it would be reflective. It’s light bouncing back at the camera, and the image you see in the lake part is the inside of the satellite’s image processing hardware.

That is one of the strangest bits of imagery I’ve seen. I can believe either “someone having fun” or some of the processing electronics getting into the game at some point along the way. But not the “light reflecting off the water (or ice, whichever) back into the camera”. Buildings show the airplane was more or less directly overhead. Shadows show the sun at a steep angle.

Several pieces of false information is inserted into the global map, and this one is a fractal image with the contents being a processor diagram.
If someone were to use Google Earth to programmatically extract the maps to build their own application, Google could prove authenticity of ownership by pointing to several points of false data… of which this is just one example.
Many reference sources do this. There are a few music encyclopaedias that include fictional bands, so that were the books copied the fictional bands could be held up as proof that it was stolen.

The images of the lake were very obviously taken during the winter months, you can tell by the surrounding countryside. Also, if you zoom out to ~20,000 feet and scroll to the south a bit you can see other images of the southern reaches of the same lake taken during the summer months. These other images to the south were very obviously taken during the spring/summer or possibly early fall, as the trees are green and have not yet turned the autumn colors.
So, now that I’ve established that these images *are* of the lake in winter time. Look at the edges of the darkened area. The pictures were taken during a winter that was not particularly fierce and the center of the lake never got a chance to fully freeze. You can even see areas around the distortion in question that are not frozen and yet do not exhibit the ‘circuit board’ effect.
Now for the people that are saying this is some kind of thermal imaging taken from a satellite or some other such device. Well, I don’t know enough about satellite technology to tell you about that. I can tell you that as others have mentioned already, much of the terrain viewed below a certain ‘eye altitude’ in this program is not satellite photography but instead an aircraft taking pictures from high altitude. Why would anyone do this if they’ve got perfectly good satellites orbiting over this area you ask? For the same reason they put a robot on mars with a camera, satellites take crappy, unreliable pictures when compared to aerial photography.
As far as the grid pattern in these images, its anyone’s guess. If you really want to believe that there is an alien civilization living in this lake and it was picked up in the pictures… I think that’s a stretch. Why would this only be picked up in the larger portions of the images at the lake’s center and not be in the smaller pockets of unfrozen water nearer to the lake’s shoreline? It doesn’t make sense does it?
Also, this is very obviously a reservoir that has at least some small remnants of human civilization under it. This happens when they build many reservoirs, and this lake is no exception. You can see evidence of this if you zoom out and look for SW 208th Street which clearly bisects the lake and was once a road going through this area. Another road worth looking at is County Road 303 on the western side of the lake. This road can be seen going right up to a smaller leg of the lake and turning around on both sides. You can still see the darkened lines leading up to the lakeshore that mark where this road used to go.
This lake also exhibits all the other tell tale signs of a reservoir made by man. The water has filled up the existing valleys in the terrain and branched out into the surrounding countryside very far to the south. Furthermore, it is in very close proximity to a large metropolitan area(Kansas City).
I’d much sooner believe that this was some bored hacker or Google employee with far too much time on their hands(much like myself) than I would believe that there is an alien civilization under this lake and that not only did the people that used to live in this area fail to discover it, but that just now is someone noticing it with the advent of this program.
Please, have some respect for yourself and go try to prove aliens exist with a more credible story. It isn’t that hard that you should have to reach for something like this that is so easily proved wrong.

It’s Smithville lake. Located a few miles north of Kansas City, MO. I’ve spent many summer days and nights hunting, fishing golfing, swimming and boating in and around it. It was built by the corp of engineers and there are a couple small abandoned towns as well as some farm homes under the water. The main channel is only about 60 feet deep, so I doubt if there is anything sinister down there.

I have found proof this is an alien lake!
For all you disbelievers out there here is irrefutable proof this is indeed an alien lake. Do a Google image search for the Army Corps of Engineers. Take a good hard look at the A C of E’s logo. Now invert your monitor (note you may want to try this with a laptop and inverting a laptop is much easier, but with persistence it can be accomplished with a CRT screen). Now study the A C of E’s logo. Look familiar?
