The Channel Tunnel

Tuesday, 28th June 2005 by James

The Channel Tunnel (or Chunnel) a 23-mile underwater crossing of the English Channel. The trains go underground here, with the train loading terminal just to the west. There’s also a large horse etched into the hill alongside. The French side of the tunnel at Calais is not in high-resolution but you can still make out the trainlines.

The thumbnail shot is of one of the boring machines used to dig the tunnel, apparently there’s a big “FOR SALE, ONE CAREFUL OWNER” sign alongside it.

This software does even compute topography!

The machine doesn’t look that boring.

xXx: What’s with the ad for google earth? I’m sure we’re all well aware of it.

I rather think the horse is more of a sight than the chunnel, but that’s just me. :P

if you have a look on the ‘hybrid’ view it shows a line going from the tunnel to the French side. très intéressant!
