Manta Ray?

Is this dark grey triangle off the coast of Rio de Janeiro a giant Manta Ray? They can apparently grow up to 8 metres wide, so if a Manta Ray was swimming near the surface we might be able to see something at the maximum zoom level. Any sealife experts willing to prove it one way or the other?

Im not really sure what it is. But i was strongly doubt its a solid mass. For waves to be breaking all round both masses it would have to be incredibly freaky.

This is what parasailing looks like…..these are off the southern tip of Baja….

A while back, I was determined to find land mammals in Google Maps, so I went to zoos’ websites to find their elephant exhibits, but I was still unable to pinpoint an elephant (my guess is that they look like rocks from above).

After being unsuccessful, I figured it would be easier to shoot fish in a barrel (so to speak), and checked out Sea World’s web page. This is a shot of the killer whale exhibit in Florida, and I think the grey smudge must be the whales in one of the resting tanks:

Tim, there’s a discussion of whether or not those are whales on the SeaWorld Post.

Thanks for pointing that out… I was even thanked for my submission in that thread! :-) Didn’t know it was there.

I think it might be some part of “Bermuda Triangle”

I don’t have the post with me at the moment , but there is a spot in SE Wyoming where you can clearly see cattle on the prairie, trails to and from the watering holes….I will see if I can find it.

If you use Google Earth on the same location (it uses the same set of photos), you can get a much better view of this (or whichever) thing. Because zooming in Google Earth in indefinite, not “staged” like in Google Maps, plus the image will not be scewed to the Mercator projection (very noticeable everywhere above 49-th latitude). In this particular case, Google Earth zoom is still not absolutely conclusive - but I see enough features on this thing to consider it a rock or a reef, most likely above water level.

I secretly wish it to be a giant squid. Those things get huge.

I think it is a b-2 bomber or other stelthplane, it cold be

I think ot could be a B-2 Bomber, or some sort of airplane, it doesn’t have to be underwater, it could perfectly be flying
