Battersea Powerstation

Battersea Powerstation was constructed in the early 1930s but has been disused since the late 70s. Designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (who also designed the classic red phoneboxes) the power station is probably most famous for starring alongside an inflatable pig on the cover of Pink Floyd’s album, ‘Animals‘.

Since they pulled out the generating equipment there has been no roof on the building so we can see right into the middle, which could easily house Trafalgar Square and St Paul’s Cathedral (it’s one of the largest brick structures in Europe). Soon it will all be gone to make way for trendy apartments, posh hotels and sculptured gardens. For more info and ground level panoramas see the BBC site.

At first San Francisco’s Transamerica Pyramid doesn’t look that impressive.. at least until you catch sight of the massive pointed shadow extending north-east. Wow. Standing at 260 meters, it must be really something from the ground! (Official site, Wikipedia entry)

Anyone know what this weird thing in Florida is? It’s huge anyway (zoom in all the way), and seems to involve a lot of water… Possibly some sort of power plant maybe?

Water Plant?

Tokyo Disney Resort

Completing the set of Disney Parks is the Tokyo Disney Resort. The resort is split into two main sections, Tokyo Disneyland Park, with the usual magic mountain, etc. and Tokyo DisneySea Park which is based around various themed ‘ports’. One such port is “American Waterfront” which features the S.S.Columbia, a boat that has nowhere to go.

To the west, along the water front, is the Official Hotels and to the north east is the Ikspiari Shopping Centre (with large type).
