Autzen Stadium (and the University) is in Eugene, Oregon. Springfield is a nearby, but distinctly different town.
The stadium is in Eugene a short walk from Springfield. MLK boulevard turns into Centennial as you go into Springfield. The stadium addition was finished in 2003 to increase seating to ~58,000. The obnoxiousness of the duck fans increased somewhat earlier when the ducks started having winning seasons again.
The stadium is built into the top of a hill, somewhat like a meteor crater. The thick earth surrounding the stadium along with its high walls reflects all of the “obnoxious” crowd noise back into the stadium, making it one of the loudest stadiums in the US.
