Sorry guys, but although some of the comments posted here were indeed intelligent and well thought through, [Edvado is right][1], this really isn't the place for that kind of discussion. Comments regretfully deleted, and thread closed.

I think thats a record for how quickly a satellite picture can turn into a debate about the Bush administration.

The link to the wikipedia page is incorrect (lowercase k in Katrina), should be:

According to DigitalGlobe, they are working with Google to provide updated imagery via Google Maps and Google Earth as soon as possible:
http://www.digitalglobe.com/katrina_info.html

Keep an eye on the following remote sensing satellite companies for images of the hurricane area, some of them already have before &
after satellite images posted (especially ORBIMAGE)

I heard a rumor that Google will be updating Maps/Earth with satellite imagery from the Hurricane.

Would definitely be interesting if that were true.

I am about 100 miles west of New Orleans - and it seems as if nothing has happened where I am. Its quite odd thinking that less than 2 hours away the entire city of New Orleans is under water.
