Take a look at the Flatirons on Google Earth (not Google Maps), then go a little north, and you’ll see an interesting mapping anomaly that locals have referred to as the “Great Boulder Chasm.”
It heads east on Baseline, and goes out at least as far as the Nebraska border.
What the hell am I looking at? (turns laptop on its side) Nope, what am I looking at? (goes to the actual google map) What am I looking at? (a minute passes) AHHHHHH! Very cool
Isn’t Boulder meant to be the best place to live in the USA with regards crime, unemployment, standard of living etc?
Still can’t see whats cool about the rocks though – tilt or no tilt.
northern git,
If you turn your head to the side, you can see that youre not looking at a barren flat piece of earth, but a series of cliff faces.
Ahhhh! Amaaaaaaazzing! Its like them Magic Eye things that i could never do- only bigger.
If y’all scroll a bit that ways you can see my work (JILA! 40.007385,-105.268389) and my apartment. Oooh.
If you tilt your head to the right you can kinder see a love heart made from 2 lakes…
If you look at it in Google Earth, rotate 90 degrees (so west is up) and then tilt down your perspective, you see one of the coolest sights in all of Google Earth (in my opinion). I moved away from Boulder just this past fall, and lived south of Table Mesa, TheMatt. Go Buffs!
I can see the flatirons from my desk as I sit and type this (Work in Broomfield)
Same thing happens when you look at devil’s tower.
