Can anyone figure out what on earth this giant egg-like thing is, near Acton, Massachusetts?
Update: As ever our readers have come to the rescue, and it seems that this is the Annursnac Hill Reservoir, a covered water storage facility sitting on the top of Annursnac Hill. There’s a fantastic birds-eye view of it over at Live Local, although Safari users be aware that it doesn’t work with your browser yet, but it works just fine in Firefox.

This is probably a water tower. If you look at the surrounding houses, it isn’t extremely large.

It’s a reservoir
Annursnac Hill Reservoir to be exact.
There’s a Whit’s End Road nearby. That’s excellent.
Since when are reservoirs white? It’s 180 feet in diameter according to the Concord WebGIS site. It’s sitting on a lot of 3.5 acres. It is at the top of a hill so some kind of water storage facility would seem to make sense.
The online usgs maps of massachusetts (http://maps.massgis.state.ma.us/MassGISTopos/viewer.htm) reveal it to be a water tower - or a WT to be more precise. Of course, WT could indicate White Thing or Whopping Toilet or …?
According to Deborah Bier, PhD, a long time Concord resident, Gimpsta is correct… it is a covered reservoir.

This reservoir (used for water storage and pressure enhancement) was uncovered until the mid-1960’s. Ironically, houses near it must have pumps and storage tanks to get decent pressure. The tower at 4 o’clock in the pictures is for local fire and emergency services and also cell phones (Nextel was the original colonist).
When it was uncovered it was said to have been a favorite site for skinny-dipping.
The elevation of the hill is about 360 feet above sea level.
Obviously its a giant golf ball that the aliens use when they play golf, I am sure there is similar one on mars as well…
