Being a part-time teacher at a dedicated german language school, I had the honor of meeting the man we call "The Berlin Candy Bomber", the reason for sweets that the flights often contained. Googling that reveals a lot of links including http://www.hill.af.mil/museum/history/candy.htm

I was unaware of this memorial, but will now have to make a special point of visiting both parts on my next visit.

Are there more examples of monuments, "divided" over a large distance like this one (worldwide)? I just like the thought of standing at one of them and thinking "Damn, a few kilometers away is the end of this bridge!" :)
