Wow! I live here!

"the mcdonalds building is quite cool inside. It used to be a restaurant with a space theme- I cant remember the name, but McDonalds bought it in early 90’s"

The old restaurant was called the Megotron, and it had little robots serving you food rather than waiters and waitresses. It was amazing.

McDonalds bought it, although it's no longer than anymore, they sold it about a year ago.

Aw, home sweet home :)

Good stuff James - upon further research i find Alconbury is as scary as it looks. They are bomb storages silos dotted around the base. All very Cold War and thankfully a thing of the past. Huntington was, of course, John Major's constituency.
The whole area is dotted with old air bases isnt it? The Lancaster is well placed considering the historical links with the area.
This is where the majority of Lancaster bombers were built- Avro Chadderton, Manchester (now Bae)

That first base cookie monster spotted is RAF Alconbury (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Alconbury), a US Air Force base. It's been shut down, or at least the airfield side of it has. Something is still going on obviously in the housing areas and at least some of the various office and service buildings to the east. Notice how the base wraps around the village of Little Stukely. Also, check this thing out: http://local.google.co.uk/local?t=h&ll=52.371853,-0.242112&spn=0.002175,0.003707&t=h You'd never know if you hadn't seen it from the ground that this is a very strange McDonalds. It's windowless, and shaped like a UFO. Very odd. I tried to find a picture of it, but this was the most interesting thing I could Google: http://www.mcspotlight.org/media/press/reuters_24jul97.html
One more thing in the area. When I lived on and around the US bases in England (until 1995) John Major lived just down the road from Alconbury. I think this must have been his house. http://local.google.co.uk/local?t=h&ll=52.351883,-0.20594&spn=0.004351,0.007414&t=h

Rather scary looking former air base to the nw. Lots of bunkers but just one dirty big runway

http://local.google.co.uk/local?t=k%5D%5B1%5D&ll=52.37628,-0.224104&spn=0.023998,0.056734&t=h

Looks like this is used as storage for cars aswell (see Whipsnade thread).
Bomber probably heading for this less scary looking airbase.
