More Crop Circles

More crop-circles have been found! This time half-way between Leeds and Sheffield, person or beings unknown have decided to create a rather complex star-shaped impression in these crops. Why here? Well, it’s right next to the M1 motorway of course! I imagine even aliens want the most “bang for their buck”.

Our aliens have also had a go at a random collection of (not very circular) circles, and er, a giant bone? At least I hope that’s what they were trying to draw…

Update: Jeff from the comments points us slightly north-west to see yet another crop circle, this time a slightly faded, pentagram-shaped one.

Thanks to Michael.

The Pantheon in Rome was originally built as a temple to the seven deities of the seven planets in the Roman state religion, but has been a Christian church since the 7th century. It is the best-preserved of all Roman buildings and the oldest important building in the world with its original roof intact.

Brandon Rowan from Rome says:

It has a massive hole at the top and it lets in sunlight. It is not glass covered, but there are drainage holes in the floor for rain. It’s amazing how bright it is. There is always a massive light circle on the floor. You have to visit this if you go to Rome.

Atomium

This is the incredible Atomium in Brussels, Belgium. It is (if you hadn’t already guessed…) a 103-metre-tall representation of “a unit cell of an iron crystal” magnified 165 billion times. This thing is huge – it’s 16 metres taller than the Flatiron!

Atomium was built for the 1958 Brussels World Fair (Expo ‘58), but has been closed since October 2004 for much-needed renovations. However… if you happen to be in Brussels this weekend then you’re in luck, as Atomium re-opens to the public tomorrow!

The Flatiron Building

The Flatiron Building (actually the Fuller Building) is one of New York’s most distinctive sights, and when they finished constructing it in 1902, it was one of the city’s tallest buildings (although 87 metres seems pretty tiny these days).

At its rounded tip the tower is only 2 metres wide, and the shape apparently creates a wind-tunnel effect – much to the enjoyment of the local men, who originally took great pleasure in hanging around and watching ladies skirts get blown up…

The Flatiron has been in all sorts of movies including Armageddon, Hitch, Shark Tale and both Spider-Man movies (as the Daily Bugle offices!).
