Here at Google Sightseeing one of the things people most often ask us to post, are your common-or-garden alien crop circles. Never liking to disappoint our readers, GGSS is proud to present… a whole slew of possibly alien crop circles!

You lucky people.

First up is this bizarre collection of lines and circles near Uckfield, East Sussex, England. At first I wondered if perhaps this was a chalk figure of some kind, but I couldn’t uncover anything, so… it must have been aliens!

Next, over to Italy for some sort of Biohazard warning symbol. This one is definitely drawn into the crops, but what are the aliens trying to tell us?

Finally, here in Billingly, South Yorkshire is the best crop circle we’ve ever seen on Google Local. Aliens. No doubt about it.

Hmmmm. Aliens who speak English… profanely. And I think the alien responsible might have been called “Eddie“…

Here’s a sad image of a dead or dying whale on a beach in South Africa. It seems that people are having to try to save beached whales increasingly often, and sadly there’s some suggestion that our marine sonar systems could be at fault.

More information on beached whales at Wikipedia.

The 2006 Winter Olympics kicked off the day before yesterday in Torino, Italy and the over-the-top ceremony was held in the Olympic Stadium.

Some of the other places available for satellite spotting include the Palaghiaccio Arena (next to the Olympic Stadium, where ice hockey is played), the Athlete’s Village, the Torino Esposizioni (where female hockey is played), the Speedskating Oval, the Palavela (where short track speedskating and figure skating will take place) and the Pragelato Ski Jump.

There’s a few Winter Olympic Google Maps Mashups over at Google Maps Mania and the Google Blog has a KMZ file of all the Olympic locations with details of what’s going on at each.

In the suburb of Parafield, just north of the city of Adelaide (the capital of the state of South Australia), there’s an airport imaginatively named Parafield, where they’ve written ‘Parafield’ in 12-foot-high trees. We reckon the type is roughly 141,732 point ;-)

Welcome to Stonefridge. Yes, this really is a replica of Stonehenge – made entirely from refrigerators. Built using only human-power, the monument is now 2.5 fridges high.

Fridgehenge

Apparently the artist (yes, this is art) needs only 60 more fridges to complete his 8-year-old dream. There’s an article about Stonefridge at the Albuquerque Tribune which has details of how to donate your old fridges.
