Grassy Barn, NJ

Thursday, 9th March 2006 by

Christopher Wallace sent in this fantastic submisison which has brightened my day considerably:

I was following the roads I take to get to college, and found what looks like an image of a barn and silos etched into a field a short distance northwest of Flemington, NJ

barn on a field

Anyone know the story behind this one?

Thanks: Christopher Wallace

That’s got to be the remains of a maize maze. Perhaps part of the halloween “haunted house” theme that http://www.schaeferfarms.com/ seem to get up to.

I live right in Flemington, I pass that spot every day, and when I met my girlfriend, she lived in the condo complex just Northeast of there (on Phoebe Ct).

And I’d never known it existed. :)

If you follow Rt 202 Westward for about 8000 feet, you’ll see Northlandz, supposedly the world’s largest indoor model train display, on the corner of 202 and River Road. The building isn’t much to look at from the sky, but that loopy thing to its right is the child-scale train ride. :)

Now that you mention it, I’m fairly sure I saw an aerial photo of this presented as a corn maze on the front page of the Hunterdon Democrat some time ago. Perfect! :)

I’m from the area as well, but schaefer farms is off of 523, closer to Readington, NJ. This is their maze remnants here…

The barn appears to be some other creation all-together.

Definitely a maze, notice how some of the lines end.

Anyway, from the address on their website, Schaefer Farms is two miles away. Here’s what’s probably their maze: Placemark: Google Maps / Google Earth

wow…..idk what it is…….to me its a work of art that should be treasured…who agrees

This is from the Corn Maze that is put on every year as a fundraiser by Howell Living History Farm. That year they had built a new barn on their site, and celebrated it with the barn themed maze.
