No, it’s not the name of a ninja. In this shot of the bell tower at the University of Dallas, Google have obviously combined two images taken at different times. This had led to two shadows being cast from the tower. It almost looks like the hands on a clock face.

The one to the east is longer so it’s just about 10:15.

Brunox, I didnt get a word of that.

That is really strange… Well, first of all, I’m pretty sure Google doesn’t process its own imagery, but whatever. There definitely seems to be a cutline there (note the varying shades of green), and they probably ran the cutline through the tower on purpose in order to avoid having a cut-off shadow coming out of nothing, which would look worse. Presumably they didn’t have enough overlap between the two source images to eliminate one of the shadows.

Erm, does the tower even appear in the photo? I don’t see it, unless it’s straight up… Maybe the same thing happened here as what happened with the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas in Google Earth.

It is not Dallas it is Tatooine and that shadow effect is really frecuent in our double sun system.

Took me a minute to see what you were talking about but then it just clicked reminded me of those pictures you would see for sale at the mall that have another picture in it, pretty cool stuff Google Earth havea great time showing my friends and family our homes and work places.

You must have really dumb pictures for sale at the mall.

    It’s all wrong.
What you’ve got here is a very special giant clock. They make 2 shadows to show you what the real, analog time is… That is saying 10 to 3.
Unfortuantly, pilots get confused when flying over it in odd directions…

If you look closely, you can see the tree shadows on the left point a different direction than the tree shadows on the right. It really is amazing how these satellite photos are precisely spliced together.

Have you tried to find that famous tower (don’t remember the name) in Las Vegas?

And just east of that is good ol Texas Stadium. Home of the Dallas Cowboys.
