Saharan Squares
Still in Western Sahara, here’s some weird squares which I can’t explain… Anyone?

It’s must be aliens, it’s more than just circles now! LOL Ok, so maybe not aliens but it would be cool if it were. But I think the previous 2 commenters are probably correct.
Could these be Dessert Squares? I always had trouble with spelling..
I wouldn’t exactly call this The Sahara. It’s right next to the ocean, and the guess of salt mining is probably good. My other guess might have been a failed irrigation / farming project, but not right on the sea.
It’s this game which is all the rage now. Basically, people draw random, stupid things in the ground and see how many comments they get on internet web blogs.
Actually Jack I think that even calling it beach is over-stretching it!
When I said Sahara I was really referring to the country rather than the dessert. I mean pudding. Afters!

If you have a look just few km south, there is something interesting that seems to be the same, but advanced to the term.
Could the ’something further south’ of it be greenhouses/glasshouses or vast polytunnels for growing fruit and veg? There are some huges ones now in Southern Spain (and you can see those on the maps). This might be an experiment to do the same thhing here.

There is a small shipping port down the beach a little ways, this might explain it. There is a large cost and equipment needed to salvage a ship after it has run aground and money is aplenty here. No need to remove them anytime soon. Also I noticed what appered to be a section blocked from view by Google, perhaps there is a military station and the explanation lies therein.
My guess: Sudoku. If you zoomed in a bit closer, you’d see a whole bunch of pencil eraser shavings…

Don’t they mark off squares like that for archeological digsites? That way they can map out the site and pinpoint areas to dig in. Maybe?
Some kind of irrigation project maybe?
