Groundhog Day
Today is Groundhog Day, a North American festival which reckons that:
if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If the groundhog sees its shadow because the weather is bright and clear, it will be frightened and run back into its hole, and the winter will continue for six more weeks.
So in celebration, we’re posting Woodstock, Illinois, the location where most of the scenes from the excellent Bill Murray comedy of the same name were filmed (although it was actually set in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania). And yes, in our thumbnail of the town square you can actually see “Gobbler’s Knob”…

We live in Woodstock and this is the first thing we mention when anyone asks where we live. Groundhog Day has embedded itself in Woodstock’s culture, so when I saw this notice on my Sightseer newsletter, I was amazed! Thanks for putting our little town on the map!

I notice that in 2007, Groundhog day is on Fri. Do they have a “Groundhog Day” weekend after that, or are all the festivities on the 2nd. BTW, Ground Hog day is my FAVORITE all-time movie! I would LOVE to go to Woodstock and see all the sites! If any one has any info please leave it or a web-site. Thanks!
I just discovered this site today and was pleasantly surprised to find a featured page on Woodstock, IL, the little town in which I was born and raised. Nice!
