Crash Landing

Sunday, 18th February 2007 by James

Nestled within the trees of this suburban park is a crashed plane, that’s been there since 1985!

The story goes that the pilot ran out of fuel over the city of Sao Jose dos Campos and was forced to land in the small park. Then, for some unknown reason, the Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia was never removed.

Embraer’s headquarters are actually located just down the road from the crash site, but it’s not a very good advertisement for their products…

Updated: It would seem that this plane didn’t crash after all, it is a prototype model of the Embraer 110 Bandeirante on permanent display. You can see ground-level pictures on airliners.net and Flickr.

Thanks: Cerávolo & Marc

    Heh, too fucking funny!

I park my planes in the park all the time, I don’t see why this is worthy of a post…

    And I thought I was a procrastinator.

    Cool sight,
but I judging from its size I don’t think this is an Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia:

    But I might be wrong.

Judging from the Panoramio-Pictures from the park it doesn’t really look like a crashed plane. It looks pretty new and neat … more like it has been put there on purpose. Maybe it did crash at has been rebuild in this place for some reason (but I doubt that).
It does face in a strange direction though (away from the park)

I think the plane is just one more of the park atracttions (like those rockets that appear in other of the Panoramio pics). Alberto Santos-Dumont was a Brazilian aviation pioneer so it wouldn’t be strange that a park dedicated to him had a plane in the middle hehe… well this is just my opinion, no official sources have been used :D

This plane is actually a prototype for what became the Embraer 110 Bandeirante:

Hahaha! Are you blind? It seems to be a real plane flying above the park and not a crashed plane. Embraer brazilian company build good planes, and this description is an absurd!

  9. 9. Mike says:

Yeah, sure it’s flying over the park. Despite the pictures, from the ground, of the plane on stilts. In the park.

hey boys, the pic is from a park, there other airplanes in this park, search at google for parque santos dumont in são josé dos campos - são paulo - brazil.

    I took that picture…. :/
