re: the largest 4-sided clock: I grew up in Milwaukee; the clock is located in a tower on the Allen-Bradley machine plant on the south side of town. local lore says there was controversy at the time it was built, since the chimes they wanted would have displaced London's Big Ben as the world's biggest chiming clock. (so they left the chimes out.) also, back in the less PC decades after the clock was built, it was referred to as the "Polish moon" due to the neighborhood's high number of Polish immigrants and the fact that it lights up at night.

The largest 4-faced clock in the world is in Milwaukee. Unfortunately it doesn't look too great from space: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&z=18&ll=43.018713,-87.912678&spn=0.002275,0.004447&t=h&om=1

The Live Maps view is much more impressive: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=r52r367p6jyb&style=o&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=5432625

Amazing. I live and work near the boardwalk facing Jersey City, and many's the night I've sat staring at the thing from a bench directly across the Hudson, and never knew that it had any sort of significance, or claim to world's blankiest-blank. Fun fact - even though Colgate is long gone, the clock still runs (at least it did last time I took a look), still lights up (bright red) at night, and still has a huge Colgate logo on it.

The wall mike referred to is the Ohio River floodwall. If you follow it to the east and west, you can see where it turns into an earthen levee. You can also find a similar wall across the river in Louisville, KY. Check out the area east of I-65 and south of I-64, where the wall in some places runs right down the centerline of streets, leaving houses and buildings on one side in the floodplain, while protecting their neighbors across the street. Scroll down this page for some ground-level shots of the floodwall http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=412265

This is the clock you could clearly see from the top of the World trade centre wasnt it?
Its a fantastic landmark and must have been one of the first things generations of immigrants saw aswell.
I only found out William Colgate was English recently aswell.
Fascinating (in a way!).
