Parachute In Flight

Tuesday, 6th March 2007 by James

As Google Earth is getting higher and higher resolution images, there’s much more to see in flight that the odd aeroplane, and today we can see a skydiver in flight over a French drop-zone.

It looks like the skydiver is aiming for the small square landing pad over to the East, where another skydiver with an orange coloured parachute has already landed.

If there was a third diver after the first two, then we could potential see a human-in-flight! I’ve searched the surrounding area, but so far can’t find anything. Have any of our readers had better luck?

While you’re searching: the average skydive only lasts a couple of minutes, so the plane which these people have jumped out of should be around here somewhere…

More on the landing zone (in French) on their website

Thanks: dda

does someone know, what the hell all the cars with trailers do, up in the north of the field, just by the parachute?

  3. 3. Jel says:

There is: unfortunately it has a camera strapped underneath it, facing downwards…

Seems like they have some trampoline jealousy in France too.

There’s at least one more chute in flight (it’s white):

That site translated. the only bit that aint is the main text bit which, bizarely, is an image.

Alex: the plane’s probably up on blocks… maybe covered in old “flower power” hippie art with a rusty peace sign dangling over the dashboard…

  10. 10. Tim says:

Ooh, ooh, ooh. I just realized a problem. See the shadow of the landed, orange parachute? It points NW. The shadow of the purple parachute, on the other hand, can be found toward the SW. If you look carefully, you can see they’re on two different pictures. The plane the purple one jumped from could be off the image that the parachute’s on.

    Alex, probably about to rain.

Cows lay down when it’s about to rain usually.

  12. 12. dave says:

smile, funny talk about cows :-) i think more interessting is the question: what are those cars doing?

    Campers meeting?

    Hot air ballon meeting?
I dont know what the official term is.
    A ‘Float off” perhaps?

  15. 15. Malcolm says:

The cars with trailers are probably gypsies or ‘travellers’ that usually just squat in fields in tents and camper vans.

  16. 16. Stu says:

Either that or the cars are some form of dogging meeting…in the middle of the day…

  17. 17. Daryl says:

Tim, the shadow that you see to the SW of the purple parachute is from the white chute that JRH points too.

You sure those “Cows” arent many poeple sitting down? possibly some couples next to each other?

  19. 19. Brian L. says:

The landed plane seems to be about one-third of the way from the orange chute to the blue one.

If you turn on the hybred feature you will see that the area is an airport, there are several planes and a number of hangers in the area, not to mention taxi ways runways (not paved) etc. there is also what appears to be a glider next to one of the runways.

    Hi,

This is Lille, where I did some jumps. I don’t think that there will be anybody out there in freefall. The Pilatus skydiveplane has already landed from the flight in which he dropped off the skydivers that are landing at that moment. Those landing at that time are usually the larger chutes and/or tandemchutes. Other jumpers if there are any have landed already. I think there are none, since it is not very busy at the clubhouse and on the parking near the club.
Tha campers on the north I am not really sure about, coulod be just campers. But normally in that corner they are flying with RC planes also.

Beautiful day though and I’ve seen this a couple of times from an altitude:-)
Wanna see what my first freefallljump-lesson was like on this spot a little over two years ago and have live footage on this placemark? Watch movie: http://www.dutchsurfexperience.nl/uploads/skydive/renelilleokt2004medium.wmv
