Feeding Frenzy
At first glance this might appear to be a a blurry cloud above the ocean but it is in fact hundreds of seabirds feeding on fish!
News of the feast has spread fast, and you can see more birds approaching from all directions.
If you zoom out it looks like there’s the trail of a ship which has just moved off the image to the South-west, so it’s likely that this frenzy has been caused by fishermen discarding leftover fish. According to Wikipedia this is how some seabird populations get 70% of their total food intake!

Just watch “Deadliest Catch” on Discovery Channel — gulls surround the boats when they are hauling pots to get any left-overs. You never see the gulls when the pots are being launched, or when the boats are steaming from one place to another — only when the pots are being hauled up. Of course, one of the crewmembers got a nice “present” from one of the gulls this year.

and this is how the fishing industry wrecks havoc on the environment. Most of the fish they trawl end up being killed for no reason and then thrown overboard.

I saw that episode of Deadliest Catch… hehe… ewww… I saw the same kind of feeding frenzy when we were having a picnic by the beach and my wife feed one lone sea gull, not knowing that would soon be a huge mistake. Just over the edge of the drop off was the rest of the flock. needless to say, we had to cut our picnic short…
