I saw the same kind of feeding frenzy when we were having a picnic by the beach and my wife feed one lone sea gull, not knowing that would soon be a huge mistake. Just over the edge of the drop off was the rest of the flock. needless to say, we had to cut our picnic short... You never see the gulls when the pots are being launched, or when the boats are steaming from one place to another -- only when the pots are being hauled up. Of course, one of the crewmembers got a nice "present" from one of the gulls this year. Just watch “Deadliest Catch” on Discovery Channel — gulls surround the boats when they are hauling pots to get any left-overs.
