I've gotten to where I can tell which helicopter from which hospital is flying over my apartment just from the sound. That's about the only air traffic I ever hear. I can still hear the roar of the thrust reversers mixing with the thunder from the drag strip two miles away (Saturday! Sunday! Funny Cars!).
