Colombian Water Slide

Tuesday, 22nd January 2008 by Alex

Apparently Colombians like their water slides, because this one near El Cruce is absolutely massive!

I believe this is the Playa Cuare waterpark, but unfortunately their website appears to be dead.

So, who can find the longest water slide?

Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg on the Austrian/Hungarian border is proported to have the largest water slide. Nothing to see at the sight but there is a dot that shows the water park. Nothing I have seen looks all that large.

You nearlly had me there Alex! I can’t wait untill April fools.

    Nice mini-river!

You can’t fool me, I know my sky blue giant anacondas when I see ‘em.

The Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg is apparently 211 metres long. The Colombian water slide is much longer than that from top to bottom, not even taking account of the curves.

  5. 5. Flümo says:

Lutzmannsburg actually only advertises Europe’s longest indoor water slide, that seems quite restrictive. Strangely enough, googleing for water slide lengths is not as easy as I expected.

  6. 6. Izzy says:

Nice! Wouldn’t mind a go on that.

But there shouldn’t be an apostrophe in Columbians.

El Cruce? According to Google Maps at least this site is close to the town of Melgar which, according to the omniscient Wikipedia, is known as the “City of the Swimming Pools” or the “Sea of Swimming Pools” because of its more than 5000 swimming pools (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melgar)

@dr. R.: Yes El Cruce sounds really weird, like the weird place names Google Earth always seems to come up with.

And if you are looking to break the record, this water slide is 514m!

  11. 11. Ben says:

Must be a long, boring, dripping walk back to the starting point - but looks as though there’s no big above ground ramp so must be a sloped terrain. Anyone want to comment on their preferred method for getting really fast?

Cover yourself in lard/ butter/ margarine before hand?
    Jet propulsion?
A big elastic band at the top?
    Skin tight all-over body suit?

    All 4?

Cookie monster, we don’t want to know what you did last weekend, thank you very much.

I was thinking to myself whilst typing “Sod the water slide - just getting ready sounds like a great night out in itself!” :D

There seems to be something to the land of swimming pools. Looking at the nearby town, the number of pools compares to Orange County in Southern California.

    The waterpark is Piscilago

  17. 17. Javier says:

As Carlo mentioned, this is the Megatobogán (mega slide) at Piscilago park. One channel, 514 mts in length and 3 mts wide, 27 turns, three tunnels, 8000 gallons of water per minute (HO2/m) which thrust floaters and double donuts for 1 or 2 pax at a time, approx trip time is from 90 to 120 seconds.

Piscilago park is located 105 Km SW from Bogotá, with an average temperature of 28°C (82°F). The park, which has a number of mechanical and water rides and attractions, as well as a zoo, can handle over 10.000 visitors per day.
