Aircraft Strip Bar

Just outside Lisbon Airport we can see an old jet airliner. Nothing unusual about that, clearly – however you’d have to go a very long way to find another aircraft that has ever been converted into a strip bar, complete with DJ booth in the cockpit!1

The aircraft is a relatively rare Convair 880 – there were originally 65 built, but today there are just 8 left in the world. Only one of these has been fully preserved: The Lisa Marie, which used to belong to Elvis Presley.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to pay this historical location a visit, as just a few weeks ago the strip bar was closed down and the plane destroyed.

So there’s only 7 now.

Thanks to Frank.

  1. Can anyone find pictures of the inside of the club?

I found this – the interior appears to be a little pokey!

  2. Alex says:

No name for this place? I would have called it “The Landing Strip” :D

  3. dr.R. says:

What about “Ready for take-off”? ;)

  4. Andrew says:

    roffle my waffle.

  5. Eduardo Maio says:

That airplane has quite a story… Drug and weapon smuggling, then the airplane was confiscated, latter it was transformed into a restaurant and then a strip club. The owner of the club was murdered with a bomb and the plane was dismantled.

    A strip-bar, that’s hilarious!

    Another name: Enter the cockpit

  7. John says:

And by, “I found this,” what Rob really means is, “One of my friends took this picture on his iPhone of me dancing with a chicka when I was in Portugal a few months ago.”

  8. Rob says:

    Don’t be so ridiculous!

    I’m the one sitting down.

  9. Bob says:

I’d have called it the mile high strip club!

  10. Jel says:

Nothing to do with the post, but I trust our moderators will appreciate these images of Pole Dancing…

  11. eRez says:

if you’ll look a little to the west from this sighting – you’ll see a football stadium getting ready for what seems to be a rock concert. any idea who’s playing?

Placemark: Google Maps / Google Earth

  12. James says:

    @eRez: Nice find!

Google Earth says that the image of this stadium (Estádio José Alvalade) was taken June 23rd 2007.

The Rolling Stones played there June 25th, so it must be the setup for that. Here’s the setlist.

  13. João says:

The name was “O Avião”. There’s no drugs and prostitution on site (at least). The strip club was closed because the owner died in a car explosion. Professional job, only the driver blow away, his escort just had some hear injury. There’s a lot of interests on that spot, the owner keeps everything legal, some mafia kill him.

The son still owns a porno theater at Lisbon downtown.

if you follow the highway to west, In the other stadium (Estadio da Luz – SLB), it seems they are dismantling another stage. Maybe the stage for the 7 wonders that come live in 7/7/07.
