A few years back when experimenting with Google earth I prepared a kml file highlighting some of the major buildings and features at Kew. It also has little snippets of information and links through to more.

See http://www.kew.org/places/tour/Kew.kml and do the fly-through.

One minor correction – whilst the compost heap is indeed big, I don’t think we claim it’s the largest in the world. It uses horse manure from the Royal Horse Artillery – see http://www.kew.org/places/kew/compostheap.html

Uh.. sorry, but 5000 square metres isn’t the same as 5 square kilometres (which would be 5 million square metres). Now that would be an impressive glasshouse

Seriously, the gardens are one of the only major London attractions I’ve missed when visiting there back in 2006. Perhaps next time I’m there, hopefully for the 2012 Olympics

I was looking at this a week ago and wow, the sight of the Thames with the tree shadows is stupendous. Half a mile upstream you see a rowing eight out for an early morning practise…
