Until today when I came across this suggestion, I had no idea it was possible to water-ski without a boat. I now know that cable skiing (wikipedia) is a growing phenomenon around the world. This facility in Germany has a great image of somebody just after they completed a jump.

We got the same thing in Orlando, quite a nice complex, a lot of championships are held at it:

The problem is it can be a long way back if you fall in, and the next one’s onto you like a shot – a boat can steer away, the cable won’t.. There used to be one here at Walibi Belgium, but it was removed after one accident too many.

There’s a thing on Willen Lake in Milton Keynes that I think was just this sort of thing. When I was there a while back it looked as though it hadn’t been used for a few years though.

Scratch that, it looks like it’s in use in the images available to GE. Placemark: Google Maps / Google Earth

There’s also a cable knee-ski spot not far from the cable ski location, part of the Wet ‘n Wild park. Placemark: Google Maps / Google Earth

This one is supposed to be the longest cable-ski-track in the world. (1200m, Friedenhain See) Well, not much to see on Google Maps :-/
