		<description>One of the issues that causes the Red to flood in the spring is that it is one of the few major rivers in the populated south of Canada that flows north. In the spring, the snow and ice melts in North Dakota and Minnisota and starts to flow north into areas where the ice has not melted yet, causing dams backing up the river.

Another one of the interesting pieces about the Floodway is the fact that the Seine River actually flows under it. You can see it disappear on the south side of the floodway and reappear on the north side.
