Following on from the ‘Dave’ post yesterday I’ve created a new category for legible text called ‘Large Type’.

The first of which is the Staples Centre, LA (Props: jbum). I’d like to think they put the text there on the off chance that James Bond was passing by in a helicopter and really needed a paperclip to defuse the bomb that was onboard. He’d look out the window, spot the Staples Centre, the world would be safe and he’d be home in time for Tea.

It’s more likely that the centre is in a popular flight-path – but you never know ;-)

There’s loads of cool things to find in Manhattan, but this shot of the Empire State Building is probably the best. The photo is at quite an angle so you can see a lot of the building. Also, over to the West, you can easily spot Madison Square Garden; it’s the big circle.

Las Vegas Strip

Some of Las Vegas’ top casinos all in one image. There’s the Sahara top left, then New York, New York below that (complete with Statue of Liberty on the corner). Eastward of NY is the MGM Grand (which looks quite unimpressive from above). The castle-like building with the red and blue turrets is Excalibur and opposite that is the Tropicana. Southward there’s the unmissable Luxor pyramid and lastly Mandalay Bay.

Wow – there are a LOT of planes in Pima Air & Space Museum. It looks like they’ve got at least 10 of each plane, all laid out in very neat rows. Also of note is the plane scrapheap – they should do an episode of Scrapheap Challenge there. (Via)

Update: From the comments David points out these pictures aren’t actually from Pima Air & Space Museum (which looks like this).

This is actually the “boneyard” of the US military at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. It’s refered to as the world’s largest air force, as there are more planes parked here in various states of disrepair, destruction or stasis to out number any active air force in the world, including the Pima Air and Space is just next door but, while incredibly cool, does not have nearly as many airplanes. There are monthly tours available through the base’s boneyard.

and Yorkie points us to a collection of ground level shots.

The Headquarters of the United States Department of Defense are very easy to spot from space.
