This is a US Navy hovercraft base at Camp Pendelton, California. You can see some of the hovercraft parked up, and there is a massive ramp that goes down to the beach for them to get straight out onto the water. The giant ‘GO NAVY’ slogan on the tarmac seems to be a common feature on lots of these bases. I found this article about the base complete with a cool photo of a few hovercraft on the tarmac.

Home of the Seattle Mariners baseball club, the Safeco field has a retractable roof, which was open on the day of this photo. Just to the north is Qwest Field, a football stadium home to the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders.

The two fields were built to replace the Kingdome, which was demolished in the world’s largest implosion of a single concrete structure on March 26th, 2000.

‘A’ Mountain & Sun Devil Stadium

Tempe Butte is more commonly known as “A Mountain” – for obvious reasons. Each year in the run up to the Arizona State University vs. University of Arizona football game the ASU students take shifts to guard the steel and concrete ‘A’ from being painted a different colour by the rival team.

Just to the east is Sun Devil Stadium, home of Superbowl XXX. Apparently the parking lot is full not because of a game, but because students can park there cheap.

Donald W. Reynolds Stadium, Fayetteville

Another Stadium with Large Type in the end zone is the Donald W. Reynolds Stadium. The south end reads “Razorbacks” as this is the home of the Arkansas Razorbacks but the north end seems to read “SAS” – anyone know why?

Update: As a couple of people noted in the comments the north end zone normally reads “Arkansas”. The photo was probably taken as the text was being repainted.

IMAX Theater, Little Rock

The IMAX Theater at the Aero Space Education Center in Little Rock, Arkansas is right next door to the runway of Little Rock National Airport so it’s obvious why they put the “IMAX” logo on the roof but I wonder how much soundproofing that place needs? (The airport is just to the north – spot the blue plane!)
