Please note that some or all of the objects mentioned in this post are no longer visible on Google Earth or Google Maps.

A few weeks ago various news sources picked up the story of a Flying Car in Google Earth. It looks to me like it’s more hovering than actually flying but it definitely resembles a normal car, although I can’t be certain if it’s a DeLorean or not.

To feed the conspiracy theorists commenter Roy has discovered that this is not an isolated case as there’s another example further to the south. Do you all still think it’s a canopy?

Parafield

In the suburb of Parafield, just north of the city of Adelaide (the capital of the state of South Australia), there’s an airport imaginatively named Parafield, where they’ve written ‘Parafield’ in 12-foot-high trees. We reckon the type is roughly 141,732 point ;-)

Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is a distinctly recognisable shell-like building that has become a symbol of the city, if not the whole country. The shells are constructed from 1,056,000 glazed granite tiles which were imported from Sweden and cover over 1000 rooms, including five different theatres. More on the building, as ever, at Wikipedia.

I’m looking at my mobile phone here, and I’m pretty sure it says ‘Sony Ericsson’ across the front… Isn’t it about time these guys updated their roof?

Thanks to Steven Arnold.

Colly Farms Cotton

A factory just south if the Brisbane River in Queensland displays ‘Colly Farms Cotton‘. I’m presuming they’re spinning cotton in there, despite Colly Cotton being “solely a marketing company” since its absorbtion by the Twynam agricultural group.

Of course, where there’s large type there’s almost always a nearby airport.
