Here’s an absolutely fantastic image of what can only be described as swirly sands on Core Sound at Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. It seems that we’re looking at sand ridges under the water and the channels running through them. Wonderful picture, many thanks to Pat Suwalski :-D

This is Pinehurst, North Carolina, where the 2005 U.S. Open kicked off today. Unfortunately it’s not all in high-resolution, but in the thumbnail I think we’re looking at the 18th. Just to the west is the clubhouse.

See, we can be timely… ;-)

Paramount’s Carowinds theme park is on the border of North and South Carolina. Some of the rides look great from up here – check out the giant rollercoaster at the North-West corner, which looks like it might be the wooden ‘Hurler‘. Apparently rollercoaster junkies say that wooden ‘coasters are the best…

Here’s a cool sculpture, ‘Picture This‘ outside the North Carolina Museum of Art is made of all sorts of different stuff (pavement, wooden boardwalk, sand, gravel, etc). Tom Cole says:

It’s almost impossible to clearly make this out at ground level

He’s right too. Over at the Museum’s homepage they’ve got some ground level shots, and it certainly doesn’t look like much from down there… looks great from up here though!
