To celebrate this week’s talk like a pirate day (ok we missed it, but heck, we were close), here’s a rather cool looking three masted schooner nestled in amongst some modern day warships. Now where did I leave me grog…?

Looks like yet another person has been keen to write ‘Jesus’ on a hillside, this time over the entrance to a tunnel near Barueri city, Brazil.

I’m not quite sure what Jesus had to do with the construction of this tunnel.. but it’s actually quite cool nonetheless, as it travels for quite a way through the mountain, eventually reappearing down here.

This is the Rio-Niterói Bridge, which connects Rio de Janeiro with Niterói in Brazil. Built between 1969 and 1974, this gargantuan structure is over 13 kilometres long (8.25 miles) and is a record holder for the size of it’s central space – the highest in the world at 72 metres (Wikipedia page).

At one point the bridge touches down on an island, and there’s also a great curve in the bridge as it passes into Rio.

The bridge carries approximately 230,000 vehicles each day, and you can see the large queue of cars waiting to pay their toll in Niterói (and also a very cool spaghetti junction awaiting them on the other side).

This is Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, this peak rises 396 metres above Guanabara Bay. An absolutely awesome sight from up here.

The blue structure on the peak is the cable car station. You get on here, at the bottom, and then take a car up to the first peak, and then onwards to the very top! Also, these were the cable cars where they filmed the scene in Moonraker where Jaws bites right through the cable! Cool.

Just to the south here is the gigantic Copacabana beach! So big that you can easily fit what looks like a beach volleyball court on there! (Mmmm, beach volleyball… )

I didn’t spot this one at first glance, but there’s a blimp floating over São Paulo in Brazil. Does anyone know what the cool ‘S’ shaped building just to the east is?
