Gillette & Foxboro Stadiums
Friday, 3rd June 2005 by James Turnbull
Home to the New England Patriots, Gillette Stadium was still under construction when this photo was taken. You can also see the old Foxboro Stadium (which Gillette stadium has replaced) to the west.
Some of the red cranberry fields, as shown elsewhere on the site, can be seen just to the south of the stadiums.
Not to get too off-topic, but it’s worth noting that Gillette Stadium is one of the very few large stadiums – maybe even the only one – built in recent years with no taxpayer funding. Some public funds were used for road improvements but the Patriots are required to pay them back over a period of time. All construction costs relating to the stadium itself came from private sources.
Neato cranberries!
Yes, Bob Kraft really is the man. Especially considering how close they came to becoming the St. Louis Patriots, or the Connecticut Patriots.
At the time this picture was taken, the stadium was called CMGI Field. But CMGI ran out of money so Gillette bought the naming rights.
Sheesh! I submitted this months ago, and still no credit. Phooey.
Gudlyf,
I’ve just had another look and you misspelt ‘Gillette’ so I didn’t find your message in the submissions database.
Sorry!
In the newest update, the old stadium is gone… Not that I miss the old aluminum benches and bad toilets
