Chinooks

Here’s a whole bunch of Chinook helicopters at Hunter Army Air Field just outside of Savannah, Georgia. The CH-47 Chinook has been flying since 1961 and its twin contra-rotating rotors and twin engines allow for massive lifting power (over 12,000 kilos) and speeds of up to 183 mph (Wikipedia entry).
In gEarth it looks like some of these helicopters are not Chinooks because they have only one top rotor. I don’t know what they are, but I am sure some of the military guys know.
Apparently Hunter Army Airfield is quite a facility! Wikipedia claims that the runway is an alternate landing site for the shuttle and that it has a very active and interesting history
