Mac Google Earth Released!

Well I really should know better.
The moment I mention the fact that Google Earth hasn't yet been released for the Mac... I discover that Google Earth has just been released for the Mac. For all of you who, like me, have been suffering severe PC envy for months now - suffer no more! And if you've never seen GE in action, then you really are in for a treat.
Don't forget, each post on this site has a 'View in Google Earth' link at the bottom which will open into the application - showing you placemarks for everything we've talked about.
Go on then, get with the downloading already!
(And for those of you who've been running GE for months... its finally come out of beta, so you guys should probably all download it too) 😀

Your “get with the downloading” link leads to the Kastellet post. Shouldn’t it point to http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html ?
I’ve been using the earlier beta for a few weeks now and it’s great. I reckon the buttons on the ‘release’ beta are uglier than the earlier version, but it’s great to finally have it.

Thats because people who use Linux only want to know what the inside of their bedroom looks like. Actually, its probably their favourite way of getting out.
Can’t get it to work. Am i doing something wrong?
northern git, Do you use OS 10.4? It doesn’t seem to work on earlier versions.
I use Tiger – cant seem to work out what i’m doing wrong. Google Earth downloads and seems to install alright but then when i click on the link in GGSS i just get a file downloaded to my desktop that is seemingly useless. I know this isnt a tech forum but can anyone enlighten me?
Drag the seemingly useless file onto my icon. 🙂
northern git, double click the .kml file and it will open into Google Earth. 🙂
Nope – nothing happening! The little icon bounces up and down in the dock for a bit then nothing. Does using safari make a difference? Thanks for your help anyway – i suspect its my incompetence and not the technology.
I suspect then Northern Git, that you’re not using 10.4… 🙁
Panic over! For some reason it took about 2 hours to initialise but its working fine and dandy now. I am now Google Earth-ed out of my mind! Thanks Alex and the mysterious ‘Google Earth for TigerOS’ (snappy user name)

Alan, some Linux users get out much more because they have far more money, not having given half their life’s earnings to a greedy American monopoly. They also have far more free time, as they don’t have to continually virus-check, defrag and all the other nonsense that goes with Window$. Not to mention the calls to your bank etc. to beg for your money back after you’ve been defrauded thanks to spyware.
Woohoo, it took upgrading to 10.4.4 but I got it! They screwed up Mt. Everest though. It’s steeper than that. Still cool of course, you can see such great detail.
Google released a new version a few days ago that supports 10.3.9.
