Radio Controlled Aeroplane
Tuesday, 7th February 2006 by Alex Turnbull
Here on Two Tree Island, England, our submitter has actually managed to spot an individual person, flying a radio controlled aeroplane! The plane is easy enough to see, and the person is identifiable by the person-shaped shadow extending north.
With the increased resolution of Google Local, people are submitting increasingly tiny things for us to post, but so far, I believe this one takes the biscuit. Very cool.
More info at the South Essex Model Aircraft Society website.
Many thanks to Steve "My eyes ache" Wrona.
Airplane?! What’s become of the British-based sightseeing site I’ve supported so loyally? 😉
Oops! I knew there was something funny about it… now fixed, ta 🙂
When I saw the heading I thought, “Shirley you can’t be serious!”
I’m pretty sure that I can even make out the line of the antenna for the controller in his shadow. That’s gotta be what, half a centimeter across?
you cant make out the antenna.
I’m hoping that word of this might reach the club whose flying site this is; then, from an ID of the car, we might be able to put a name to the pilot! Maybe he ditched work for the day to do some flying in what looks to be great weather!
Matt: From what I can tell, that IS the antenna! Thats is what made me search for the guys plane, ending in eye-cramps!
Steve
Did the submitter go looking for this or did he just chance upon it? In both instances one would worry for the poor lads mental health never mind his aching eyes! matt – you are right – i can make out the antenna aswell. Blooming amazing!
if you go north east of the plane picture, there is a dock with a whole bunch of little speedboats there, its kind of cool.
cookie monster – I happened to stumble on the site and looked at the details. When I thought what I saw looked like a guy standing there with a transmitter in his hand I Googled the location (Two Tree Island) and “radio control”.
Up popped the SEMAS club website, a confirmation of what the place is and I then started looking for his plane.
Regarding my mental health – All I will say at this point is that I appreciate your concern but, it is usually about this time that my medications start to worrrrrkkk an d I gogogo to my happpppppy playsh..
Steeeeeeeeeve

Steve Thanks for sending me the link to this page. The flying site is shared by two clubs, SEMAS and Southend Flying club. We are awere of the Google Earth picture and the guy flying but nobody spotted the plane. Not sure who the member is as this picture was taken about 2 – 3 years ago. I will dig a little deeper to see if I can get a name.

I spotted this before on Google Earth, and you know, I think thats me and my dad! It looks like our car, and we are two of the few people who fly on electric flying days! I could be wrong, but it sure is a likeness.
Amazing, did you also see the statue in the river to the NE.
