Victoria Falls
Thursday, 23rd March 2006 by Alex Turnbull
Situated on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, this is the jaw-droppingly spectacular Victoria Falls.
The falls are known locally as "the smoke that thunders", and you can certainly see why! There's a bungee platform if you're feeling brave, although this precarious bridge looks scary enough for me. You can also see some people at one of the viewing points at the cliff edge.
These incredible images have made it to Google Local as part of the National Geographic Megaflyover project.
Thanks to Nic for being the first person to submit this since the images got upgraded 😉
Although it might be painfully obvious, those pictues are amazing.
I was born in Zambia!
Here in Britain at the moment the bbc is showing a series called Planet Earth and there has been some absolutely amazing footage including an incredible flypast of Angel Falls (i know this is Victoria Falls but they went to Lake Victoria aswell). Brilliant programme, proving we still make the best telly in the world. Worth the license fee alone and all our freinds in the colonies should look out for it (bbc worldwide on cable maybe?).
Wow! That is fantastic! Can you imagine what other fantastic things there are out there? If only the whole world was in that resolution 🙂
Holy Sh.t! I hope they publish hi res pictures of our Iguazú Falls really soon. Can’t wait!
These pictures are probably The Best Thing ™ I’ve ever seen in googlemaps
Do you guys recommend any good sites for info on Victoria Falls?
was born in Z..and i’ll alwayz belong in Z…..miss this shit like dope.
Sad memories of a colleague who was blown over the side off that bridge twenty years ago…
Just for the record, I’ve been on that bridge, and it’s a totally solid modern concrete construction with safety rails. There are strong winds and you get drenched from the spray from the falls, but the person who was blown off must have been there during a particularly fierce storm.
Check out geotagged images on flickr for a better view.
