TeesPort Tanker & Hartlepool Nuclear
Saturday, 25th March 2006 by
Here we can see what looks to be an oil tanker refuelling at Teesport near Middlesbrough in the UK. Teesport is the 2nd largest port in the UK and the 10th largest in Western Europe, and also happens to be extremely close to where I grew up! The imagery is surprisingly high resolution, you can make out the pipes going onto the ship and the onboard helipad.
Hartlepool nuclear power station is just to the north across the bay. This place used to freak me out as a child, living so close one of those "scary power stations". I remember going for a visit with school and standing in the heat of the reactor room in awe.
Thanks: Ben Hall
Can you see the hanging monkey from up there?
The director Ridley Scott, who was born and grew up in the area, has said that he got the inspriration for the city scapes in Blade Runner from the industrial landscapes of Hartlepool and Middlesborough. Its funny cos Harrison Ford asked me for change for the transporter bridge just the other day (he only had a fiver!)

Y’know, that beach reminds me of the spectacular coast of Oregon, a small portion of which has high-resolution:

Take my word for it, its beautiful.
I take it you havent been to Middlesbrough Tim !?!?! Middlesbrough and beautiful are not words often said in the same sentence.
Notice that they weren’t (:
But anyway, I’m just talking about the beach, and I’m only talking about how the beach looks from the air. The industrial area looks pretty darned ugly, alright.
[Insert terrorist related joke about the nuclear reactor]
I thought the Transporter Bridge was pulled down and re-erected in Arizona by Den, Oz and the boys…. 😉
Ah beloved middlesbrough, the accent, the people the erm, border! those from the’boro’ may know what I mean…nice shots mind, it is awsome to see the scale of the industry tho, especially from up on the north york moors.
Oh and its an orange ship so its likely to be a liquid gas tanker of sorts.
