The Oscars
Sunday, 5th March 2006 by Alex Turnbull
Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud, honoured, humbled, overawed and delighted to present, the permanent home and location of today's 78th annual Academy Awards, Hollywood California's Kodak Theater!
And just outside is the Hollywood Walk of Fame, dotted with over 2000 stars marked with the names of celebrities honoured for their contributions to the entertainment industry.
More info on the Oscars, the Kodak Theater and the Hollywood Walk of Fame over at Wikipedia.
Thanks to Kevin Law, Winterfresh, gIMpSTa, Trevor Botting, chris jernigan, Simone and Paulia.
Here is the famous Hollywood sign too View Placemark
It’s a shame the Chinese Theatre is obscured by shadow, otherwise with the new resolution you could probably see some of the handprints.
Any idea what this is?

lol. I submitted that a LONG time ago! (thanks for still including me!)
I know it just went up now because the oscars just happened, but just kind of funny because that musta been at least 6 months ago!
Rich – are they perhaps covered water storage tanks? They sit at the head of that small lake so maybe its a pumping house and small underground resevoir maybe.
Hey, that’s the Hollywood Reservoir! Look to the south and you’ll see it’s bordered by the St. Francis Dam, which is shored up by a massive wall of soil, on which trees are growing. The reason for that is that the dam broke in 1928, causing a catastrophic flood that washed away acres of houses and trees and pretty much the whole area. To make sure it would never happen again they put that mound of dirt in front of the dam. As it turns out, the dam was actually built in an ancient fault line, but they couldn’t have known that when it was built. Nice sight Rich!
Y’know, I probably should have submitted this, but it wouldn’t get posted till August.

Ha ha Tim, very funny I don’t think 😉 If you had submitted it, I think you would have been the only person to do so!
