Tetraeder Bottrop
Thursday, 26th October 2006 by James Turnbull
To follow-up from the Copper Mining earlier in the week, we head over to the German coal mining town of Bottrop, where there's lots of industrial stuff going on.
But if you're more of an art person, on a nearby disused slag heap we find 'Tetraeder Bottrop', a giant big Tetrahedron artwork-thingy by Wolfgang Christ. 230 tonnes of steel went to make what is basically large viewing platform, 60m tall on a 90m heap.
Thanks: Bilbo
The irregularly formed long green building at the southeast of the tetrahedron is an indooor skiing hall – before anybody asks 😉
If you fly a little to the NE, you’ll find the Warner Brothers Movie Park
by the way. A little to SW you can find the Centro in Oberhausen. It is europeans biggest shopping mall.

Ok. the wikipedia sides are german, but there are some nice ground level pics.
I have been on the Tetraeder. Nice construction. The uppest round platform is 42m height and leaned to the side by 8° and is mounted only with steel cable. So on a windy day it is really scary up there.
Call that mine! Now this is a mine! https://www.googlesightseeing.com/maps?p=&c=&t=k&hl=en&ll=50.912775,6.496868&z=13
Its near Koln and try zooming out until you cant see it! Never mind the old ‘see the Great Wall of China from space’ thing – you can see this from Mercury!
Everyone knows that the Tetraeder Bottrop thingy is actually a UFO landing site for when the space aliens decide to land and take over this planet. 🙂
