Truck spillage
Wednesday, 31st October 2007 by James Turnbull
Near the city of Liverpool, UK, an articluated lorry appears to have taken the roundabout a bit too fast, and toppled over onto the side of the road.
Whatever it was the trailer was carrying is now splattered across the verge. Any ideas for what the contents were?
Also see our previous related entries Truck crash and Trucks pulling trucks.
Thanks: quercus63
Cant shed light on the contents of the lorry (it looks loose material though and not palletted so could be anything from potatoes to scrap metal….though they dont seem to be taking much care tidying it up – i can see a dumper truck and a smaller truck taking stuff away) but just to the north is the former Burtonwood USAF base. During WW2 it was the biggest USAF base in the country and the path of the M62 motorway sits directly on top of the main runway. You can still see some of the hangars and remnants of some of the taxiways. The local mythology was that the motorway was built in a straight line and without bridges so it could be used as a makeshift runway again should the balloon ever go up!
i think the answer is in a blokes magazine i just bought. i’ll look it up for you.
Don’t think it’s articulated, don’t see a break and it looks like standard “container” length to me.
As for the contents, my guess is either trash or waste paper, given that it appears to have been an open-top bin, and the debris appears to be in sizeable chunks.
@Cookie Monster: Funny about the emergency runway thing, we have the exact same urban legend about US interstates.
i think its chickens. trying to find the online version of the article.
only because it’s halloween…
brainnnnzzz! who’s with me?
If it was chickens they’d be running around all over the highway!
As it’s in Liverpool I’m sure the contents of the lorry soon dissappeared.
It’s chickens! Now there are thousands of chickens running amok all over Liverpool! OH NO!
Arg! I’m being attacked by zombie chickens! They want braiiiiiiins…
I just like the way those words sound together…”articulated lorry”
It’s not Chickens that are running amok all over Liverpool, believe me!!
Looks like ordinary rubble or debris to me.
The myth regarding motorways/highways/expressways being used as aircraft runways is true.

This is in Singapore. It is a 4 or 5 lane (each) direction with a middle dividing section containing movable potted plants.
lol. sorry guys, i appologise. the chickens where in scotland. 2 page article in zoo/nuts magazine on trucks overturning and spilling loads. like fish guys and the like. thought i saw it in there š
I think it’s articulated. See how there are wheels under the front of the “trailer?” I think that would be hard to control if it was just one piece.
Please no! I only live a mile away from this…It’s NOT Liverpool, but Warrington, a town in its own right, and has even applied for city status in the past (though probably will never become one.)
Oh, and the contents…my dad remembers this happening and the truck was carrying waste. Yak, messy!
