Site upgrades
Sunday, 4th November 2007 by James Turnbull
We've just completed a few under-the-hood upgrades to GSS and everything seems to be back to normal. If you notice any weirdness or broken bits then please get in touch via the contact form.
If you're reading the site via our RSS Feed then, depending on your RSS client, you may see all the recent entries marked as "unread". Apologies for this, it was unavoidable in the upgrade!
For the sake of the nerds, I have to ask… What kind of upgrades did you install?
Jordan: The biggest change is we upgraded to WordPress 2.3, which refactored all the category structures into new databases and introduced tagging. This meant I had to rewrite a lot of the custom category-based code around the site.
We also upgraded a few of the supporting plugins, added a couple of new ones, and tidied up a lot of the GSS internals to make future Worpress upgrades a little easier to handle. I think that’s most of it 😉
Just to say the RSS feed link on the home page doesn’t work it links to this url

Ummm … and where has the forum disappeared to?
I have Adblock installed and I was thoroughly confused by the advert at the top for Google Pack. The content in the button (iframe) doesn’t load, so it just says “click this button” and there’s a black hole that does nothing. I thought it was a joke or something, except that I didn’t get it. I tried disabling Adblock and now it all makes sense!
Just thought I’d mention that…
@Mrb: Thanks, fixed.
@Tammo: Apologies, the forum link went awol. I’ve added it back into the menu. However, it may go again, as the forum has been quieter than we had hoped. If you want it to stay then get over there and start posting 😉
@Al: Ah, good point, I see how that can be confusing. I’ve knocked up some nifty Javascript that should notice you’ve blocked the button image and then hide the rest of the ad for you.
On an unrelated note, does anyone on here have a Gravatar, and care about seeing it on their comments?
Um… the new posts dont have the stamps on them. (See all posts above this one on the main page)
Izzy: Whoops – I missed that! Now fixed, thanks for spotting.
