On this day: The Empire State Building was dedicated
Thursday, 1st May 2014 by Ian Brown
On May 1, 1931, the Empire State Building was dedicated. The 103-storey skyscraper was the tallest building in the world - a record it held for almost 40 years. President Herbert Hoover turned on the building's lights with the push of a (symbolic) button all the way from Washington DC.
Ya’ll need to learn to spell such words as “Herbert,” “story,” et al.
Dick – thanks for pointing out my error in the President’s name. I apologize for that and have corrected it.
As the site is UK-based we tend to use the English spelling of words like ‘storey’, ‘colour’ etc. rather than US versions. I hope that is understandable for you.
Sorry, didn’t know you’re UK-based. Thought you’re in Chicago – not sure how I mis-deduced that.
If I’d known you were UK I would have kept my lips buttoned!
Best wishes, cousins.
