On this day: The Baseball Hall of Fame Opened
Thursday, 12th June 2014 by Ian Brown
On June 12, 1939, the Baseball Hall of Fame opened in Cooperstown, NY. The attraction - originally developed as a ruse by a local hotel owner to attract tourists - was boosted by a myth that the game was invented in the town. These days over 300,000 visitors a year visit the museum which celebrates many aspects of the game. (Though probably not the Ten Cen Beer Night riot which we looked at earlier in the month.)
