On this day: Pinball was Banned in Atlanta
Thursday, 19th June 2014 by Ian Brown
June 19, 1939 was a dark, dark day in the city of Atlanta. The city council voted to outlaw … pinball. Seen as "encouraging moral degeneration amongst children", the machines and their "electrical click-click" fell silent a short time later, followed by similar moves in cities across the country. Decades later, when it was abundantly clear that moral degeneration could happen perfectly well even without pinball, the laws were thankfully repealed.
